Joelle Haspil

Originally from Haiti, Joelle Haspil has spent more than 30 years as an interpreter for the US court system. A certified Federal Court Interpreter, Haspil is the first interpreter in America to hold certification in Haitian Creole, Spanish, and French. Since retiring, she has established herself as a Florida-based independent contractor whose clients include the US District Court in the Southern District of Florida, the State Courts of Florida, and the US Department of Justice. These organizations benefit from Joelle Haspil's guidance in trials, client/attorney interviews, Rule 35 hearings, motions, and other legal matters.
Along with these responsibilities, Haspil offers her services to other groups. Since 2013, she has performed as an independent consultant and instructor with the State of Louisiana's court interpreter's consortium workshop. For more than 15 years, she has taught at the two-day court interpreter orientation on behalf of the Supreme Court of Florida. Additionally, she created and administers the court's tests to certify French and Haitian Creole interpreters. Moreover, she sits on the Advisory Group for Miami Dade Community College's associate in science degree for translation and interpretation studies.
