John Klein

John is the former president of Guggenheim Investments, the investment management business of Guggenheim Partners, a diversified investment manager with 800+ employees overseeing $180 billion in assets for institutional, intermediary and high net worth clients. In his role as president he was responsible for the strategic direction and profitability of the business as well as the day-to-day oversight of strategy, distribution, operations, financial reporting, administration, legal and compliance.
John led the $700 million debt offering for Guggenheim Partners Investment Management Holdings, the investment manager’s initial capital raise from the institutional market, and served as a board member of GPIMH. Prior to assuming the role of president, Mr. Klein was a senior managing director of Guggenheim Partners where he led the principal investments effort including the acquisition of Dick Clark Productions (a leading independent producer of television programming), the acquisition of Rydex/SGI (including the subsequent integration with existing retail channel focused businesses to form the foundation of Guggenheim Investment’s Intermediary business), the sale of Claymore Canada (a rapidly growing Canadian based ETF business sold to BlackRock), the acquisition of the US annuity and life insurance business of Sun Life Financial (the acquired business to be renamed Delaware Life), as well as numerous other executed transactions and acquisition assessments.
With over 25 years of investment management and consulting experience, John has managed multiple investments and business operations with responsibility for strategy development and implementation, transaction negotiation, marketing and capital formation. Prior to joining Guggenheim in 2010, he was a Partner and Managing Director of the investment management organizations at Citi and Jupiter Partners where he served as a member of their respective investment committees.
While at Citi Private Equity, John was one of five investment partners managing a $13 billion portfolio of private equity investments including direct equity investments, mezzanine investments, and fund commitments. He served as a member of the board of directors for C&J (oil and gas field services business where he led a $300 mm equity capital raise among institutional investors) and Allen Edmonds (manufacturer of men’s shoes and accessories).
