Teacher and staff developer for over thirty years. Graduate degrees in biology and education, including Ed. D. From Teachers College / Columbia University. Currently writing on teaching students how to learn and think. The current emphasis on what to learn is easily quantifiable, but does not meet the student's needs. Teacher must understand themselves as a learner / thinkers. They also need to know their students so that the teaching can be effectively implemented. The need to continued development of their knowledge of their subject material. The need to build an array of teaching strategies and understand their roles in thinking and learning. Finally, the integration of these components.
Where the teacher is currently on each of these components, and how continue development is necessary for effective classroom practices.
