A tenured member of the Bloomsburg University faculty, John Barrett teaches introductory courses and other academic levels as an assistant professor of writing. John Barrett was responsible for re-envisioning Writing II as College Writing Enrichment at Bloomsburg University.

Serving as the Department Curriculum Committee chair from 2015 to 2017, Mr. Barrett expanded Writing II to include a digital portfolio system and a common essay assignment. He also set forth a proposal for Quantitative Literacy, a new math course that would incorporate developmental education curriculum research.

Mr. Barrett is a respected voice in his field, and his essay, “Box Cutters: Storytelling and Themed Course Design for Today’s Writing Classroom,” was published by the National Association of Developmental Educators (now called the National Organization of Student Success). Currently, he is working on several projects that include a memoir, poetry, and young adult fiction. He is also writing a nonfiction teaching book and planning a blog that will focus on pop culture trends and their influence on collective cultural identities.
