Formerly a principal at the Cincinnati public school system’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts, John (J.R.) Carlisle holds a bachelor of music education from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, as well as a master of education leadership from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. In addition to his education credentials, he earned an MBA in organizational leadership from Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa. From the late 1980s to the early 2000s, he instructed grade school and high school students as a music teacher and music coordinator. Currently, John Carlisle serves as the owner and chief consultant at Carlisle Educational Services in Miamisburg, Ohio, where he advises more than 50 scholastic programs throughout the Southeast and Midwest United States.

In addition to his consulting work, John Carlisle serves as the director of the Carolina Judges Association, in which he leads and trains a variety of performing arts professionals and enthusiasts. Over the years, he has adjudicated a number of local, national, and international competitions, including Winter Guard International, Drum Corps International and Bands of America.
