John Hickman

John is a screenwriter based in Newcastle, represented by Georgina Ruffhead at David Higham Associates in London. In 2014, his children’s TV script, The Things, was a finalist for the BAFTA Rocliffe 2014 children’s writing competition and was also taken onto the development programme as part of the BBC Writersroom Scriptroom 7 call-out. He has completed an MA in Creative Writing, as well as undertaking a PhD, with a focus on the media representation of looked-after children, subsequent to several years of social work practice.

John has a passion for creating engaging and authentic young protagonists, unique high-concept ideas and emotionally charged stories in a variety of genres. He currently has a number of projects in development, including coming of age drama, Young Shoulders and contained horror, Don’t Make a Sound.
