John Leighton is a board certified trial lawyer who practices personal injury and wrongful death law in Florida. He is the managing partner of Leighton Law, P.A., with offices in Miami and Orlando. Mr. Leighton is a nationally-recognized lawyer who is an accomplished author and lectures throughout the country to other lawyers regarding trial skills and substantive litigation issues, including personal injury, medical malpractice, inadequate premises security, product liability and complex catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death. He has been selected for inclusion in "The Best Lawyers in America," Florida SuperLawyers (and voted as a Top 100 Florida SuperLawyer 10 years), Florida Trend magazine's "Florida Legal Elite," and the South Florida Legal Guide "Top Lawyers (13 years in a row). He holds an A-V preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and a 10 out of 10 ("Superb") rating from Avvo.com. Mr. Leighton is the sole author of the two volume textbook, Litigating Premises Security Cases (West Publishing, 2006), which is updated annually, and has authored 7 lead articles in Trial magazine. He has lectured or taught lawyers in over a dozen states and is frequently sought to serve as trial counsel throughout the country. He has litigated or tried cases in Illinois, Texas, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Georgia, and New York. He has obtained some of the largest verdicts and settlements in Florida, including two $24 million verdicts, $11.25 million and $9 million recoveries, and dozens of other multi-million dollar awards for clients. Leighton serves as Chairman of the Academy of Trial Advocacy, a national invitation-only association of some of the nation's leading catastrophic injury attorneys, as well as sitting on the Executive Committee of the National College of Advocacy, which develops all of the curriculum and course material for the 40,000 members of the American Association for Justice. He is past Chairman of the Motor Vehicle, Highway and Premises Liability Section of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and is the current Chairman of the Inadequate Security Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice.
