Hi there! I'm a cartographer and user-experience designer working from a wood shed in Grand Ledge, Michigan.

Some of my work has been featured in National Geographic Magazine, FastCompany, the Guardian, the Atlantic Cities, Discovery News, the blogs of NASA and the Smithsonian, as well as the front page of Reddit (which nearly made me do a spit-take then dramatic faint).

I'm an infrequent speaker at Geo-Science and technology conferences, presenting on topics including data visualization, cartography, UX, and social media.

When I'm not doing these things I am tending to terrific above average children, gardening, corralling chickens, or adventuring around the Straits of Mackinac in glorious Michigan.

I write at AdventuresInMapping.Wordpress.com and tweet as @John_M_Nelson.

Specialties: User Experience, Spatial Analysis, Data Visualization, Information Architecture, Cartography, Communications & Teaching.
