John A. Grasso, Jr.

John Grasso is a Captain with the Town of Hamden Department of Fire & Emergency Services. In addition to having more than twenty five years of experience in fire service, John holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Administration and is currently enrolled in Quinnipiac University’s Master of Business Administration Program with an anticipated graduation of December 2015. In addition to his formal education, John has received extensive training certifications in the fire and rescue service profession as well as considerable Fire Service Instructor and Emergency Medical Service Instructor certifications. John’s experience is rounded out with licensure as a paramedic.

In addition to his duties as a House Captain, John plans, organizes and develops training lessons and plans programs in all functional areas of the department, including emergency medical services, firefighting, equipment operation and related administrative matters. John’s role requires that he work in conjunction with the fire chief on near-term and long-term strategic planning. His duties have included establishing and maintaining comprehensive records of department activities and personnel performance.Additionally, John assists with budget preparation and submits budget recommendations as necessary.

John is responsible for managing the budget for the Division of Training and EMS. As department spokesperson John speaks to school, civic and private organizations and serves as the liaison to other firefighting organizations. His current role routinely interacts with other officials within the town government,department heads and union officials.
