John Alonzo
Youth Advocate, Philanthropist, and Writer in the Philippines
I am an alumnus of Mariano Marcos State University – College of Arts and Sciences, where I earned my degree in Bachelor of Arts in English Language. I also completed the English for Media Literacy course sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, which further strengthened my passion for communication, education, and global understanding. As Michelle Obama once said, “You have to get your degree, because that’s the one thing people can’t take away from you, is your education. And it is worth the investment.” With this in mind, I carry this wisdom with me as a constant reminder of the value of knowledge and the doors it can open. Indeed, hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.
I am a visionary deeply passionate about empowering the youth and championing humanitarian causes. Anchored in strong family values, I strive to be part of a new generation committed to positive transformation. Guided by purpose and compassion, I advocate for sustainability, uplift students’ aspirations, and stand for the dignity and well-being of our elderly community. More importantly, I firmly believe that youth have the power to be significant agents of positive change, and when guided with the right values, they can shape a brighter future for all. For me, service has always been rooted in love for others and love for the country.
As a proud Filipino, I live by the words, “Lagi’t lagi, para sa bayan” — a persistent reminder that everything I do is for the nation and its people. I take pride in showcasing the best of the Philippines to the world, believing that our culture, resilience, and values are treasures worth sharing. Moreover, I aim to make a mark not for myself alone, but for the collective spirit of the Filipino people. After all, as Catriona Gray wisely said, "To everyone with a dream, know that your dreams are valid. And on your path, you are never denied and only redirected." This perspective motivates me to press on despite challenges, knowing that every setback is simply a redirection towards greater purpose.
I believe that true change begins with compassion, education, and responsible action. Whether through projects I support or through conversations I engage in, my goal is to inspire hope, empower the next generation, and help build an inclusive and caring society. Equally important, I believe in equity and social justice, in the freedom to create lives we truly value, and in the courage to step outside our comfort zones to disrupt the status quo when necessary. For this reason, I hold on to the belief that all our dreams can come true if we only have the courage to pursue them, for courage turns vision into reality.
My interests focus on Human Rights, Public Policy, International Law, Politics, and Government, where I hope to contribute to progressive social change. Above all, I aspire to help create a safer, fairer, and more compassionate world — one where every person, regardless of who they are or what they believe, can live with dignity and possibility. I remain committed to using my voice, my skills, and my platform to empower others and to help turn shared dreams into meaningful realities.
