John Alphson

The Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Norfolk Capital, LLC, John Alphson has over 20 years of experience in commercial and industrial real estate investment and management. Overseeing a portfolio of over 1 million square feet of property with a deal size of over $85 million, Mr. Alphson is an industry-recognized leader. He emphasizes the creation of value by repositioning assets and purchasing properties below replacement cost levels to generate high internal rates of return. In 2010, he directed Norfolk Capital, LLC to begin fundraising for a principal acquisition fund for opportunistic real estate investments in California, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, and Atlanta. Properties purchased by the fund will target internal rates of return in excess of 20 percent. Additionally, John Alphson consults for clients on domestic and international real estate investments for private equity funds. Before forming Norfolk Capital, LLC in 2005, John Alphson worked for 20 years for Public Investment Corporation of Santa Monica, California. Beginning as an Associate and earning promotion to Vice President of real estate development and brokerage, Mr. Alphson next served 5 years as Executive Vice President, supervising distressed acquisitions, debt/equity fundraising, and asset management. Eventually rising to the position of President, John Alphson became a Principal in the company and a member of the Board of Directors. A specialist in commercial and industrial real estate, he doubled the annual revenue of the company, and as President, generated an annual real estate portfolio return on investment exceeding 40 percent in his last 5 years at the company. John Alphson attended the University of California, Berkeley, earning a BA in Economics and English. After graduating with honors, Mr. Alphson attended the University of Cambridge in England, where he earned a Master of Arts in English and was a member of St. Edmund’s College. After entering the real estate industry, John Alphson continued his association with the University of Cambridge, completing a Master of Business Administration degree in 1995 while a member of Emmanuel College.
