Hi, I’m Johnathon. I am a scientist who loves researching questions within molecular biology. I enjoy teaching everything from introductory biology concepts to graduate-level molecular biology. You can find me on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google Scholar.

Currently, I study noncoding RNAs in Alex Ruthenburg's laboratory. Our lab found that noncoding RNAs can influence gene transcription. I want to know exactly how this happens, especially in the context of heart cells. We hope that this will inform the genetic basis for heart diseases.

Click here to listen to a seminar on noncoding RNAs that I gave to a general audience at my undergraduate university.

To enrich our scientific community, I have focused on improving opportunities and experiences for underrepresented students in STEM. I have co-directed science camps, I helped found the Graduate Recruitment Initiative Team at UChicago, and I actively participate in the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS).

I love to discuss science and education. You can email me at [email protected]
