A Certified Municipal Financial Officer, John Barrett has worked in financial positions with multiple municipalities and counties across New Jersey throughout much of his career. John Barrett currently leads the Brick-based PM Consultants, where he concentrates on providing government financial services for counties and municipalities statewide.
From 2008 to 2020, he also served as the chief financial officer and the director of finance of Hamilton Township, one of New Jersey’s largest municipalities. He was responsible for managing annual budgets of over $120 million and maintaining health insurance for employees and retirees. Furthermore, he assisted with financial modeling to support negotiation efforts with nine bargaining unions. By the end of his tenure in Hamilton, he had corrected several years of budget deficits and grew the fund balance to over $10 million, up from $80,000 when he joined.
Outside of his professional obligations, Mr. Barrett volunteers at church events and enjoys scuba diving, fishing, and boating, among other hobbies. Additionally, he is a past recipient of a Volunteer of the Year award from the Alzheimer's Association’s local chapter.
