John Bernstein

John Bernstein is an Advisory Director at General Atlantic, where he works closely with the firm’s investment team and portfolio companies based in the EMEA region. Through 2017, John was Managing Director and Head of General Atlantic’s business in EMEA. John serves on the boards of Argus Media, Hyperion Insurance Group, FNZ, MeteoGroup, and Studio Moderna. He previously served on the board of Axel Springer Digital Classifieds. Before joining General Atlantic in 2008, John served as a Partner at Advent International where he led the European Telecom and Technology investment practice. He is qualified as a barrister in England and Wales.

Before joining GA, John served as a partner at Advent International, where he led the European telecom and technology investment practice.

John holds an M.A. in economics and law from Downing College, Cambridge University, and qualified as a barrister. He is a member of the Africa Advisory Council of The Nature Conservancy and a board member of the NamibRand Nature Reserve in Namibia.

John recently joined the London-based investment house Generation Investment Management as a partner and chair of its growth equity investment committee.
