John Clapps
John Clapps, cross-platform creative director John is an early adopter. His tech passion, combined with talents in design and art direction combine to make John a unique and valuable marketing professional. His roles have included a high-level interactive post at a major media company, advertising agency founder (twice) and big-agency art director. He is as familiar with the intricacies of Web development as he is with traditional media. He knows what makes a brand successful, what makes an agency profitable and what makes clients comfortable because he's been one. Most recently, as Interactive Director at Time Inc.'s Corporate Sales unit, John handled architecture, design and scripting, building and creating Web sites and rich media projects. Examples include Intranet sites, banner campaigns, sales videos and high-end presentation templates. John's mastery of Flash and Actionscript helped bring his brilliant thinking to life. The beginning of Johns career was no different. He impressed at major New York advertising agencies McCann-Erickson, Wells Rich Green, Ayer and Bozell honing his craft on icon brands ATT, Black and Decker, Coca Cola, GM, GE, Kmart, Nabisco, Purina, Smirnoff and USAir, to name a few. Then, in 1993, John founded Krimstein/Clapps. As an innovative "integrated" agency when the concept barely existed, he created work for marketers like American Express, Apple, Cartoon Network, Gilbey's Gin, Lands' End, Mistic Beverages and Tower Air. The agency inspired The New York Times, Adweek, AdAge and the Bravo Network to chronicle its success. His next launch in 1997 was Brand24, a boutique agency that created Web and e-commerce sites, print, TV and brand identity materials for growing companies. They included KillerGolfUSA.com, BioLogicsOnline.com, Local Restaurant (a NYC restaurant), RIHGA Royal Hotels, CommunicationPathways.com, SeriousToyz.com and Hankook Tires. Expanding his capabilities, John let traditional TV capture his imagination at packaged goods maker, Combe, Inc. He created, tested and produced TV for products like Aqua Velva, Brylcreem, Just For Men, Lanacane, Lectric Shave, Odor-Eaters and Vagisil. John received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts. He's married, has four kids and, as an avid motorcyclist, completed a coast-to-coast trip in just three days a feat which he has absolutely no desire to repeat.
