John Eck
CEO and Transformational Leadership in Dallas, Texas
John Eck is a highly respected executive recognized for consistently delivering value to shareholders and stakeholders while fostering deep alignment with the organizations he leads. Often operating behind the scenes early in his career, John became a trusted partner to CEOs across GE, NBCUniversal, and Univision, where he repeatedly stepped into complex, career-defining challenges and delivered durable outcomes.
At NBCUniversal, John played a central role in digitizing the NBC Television Network and integrating NBC and Universal, two transformational efforts that reshaped the company’s operational and strategic foundation. As President of the NBC Television Network, he helped guide the organization through a period of significant industry and technological change. His leadership excellence has been recognized with two Sports Technical Emmy Awards and a CEO Award from Jeff Immelt at GE for his work on the NBCUniversal integration.
At Univision, John led the company’s television and radio group and spearheaded the reverse spectrum auction strategy, generating more than $400 million in debt reduction. He also initiated a number of process improvements and growth initiatives that strengthened the company’s long-term operating model.
John’s capstone professional role was as CEO of Mattress Firm, where he led one of the most notable retail turnarounds in recent years. After emerging from bankruptcy in 2018, he rebuilt the business into a thriving specialty retailer, ultimately delivering a $5 billion sale to Somnigroup in 2025. The outcome reflected not only financial success, but disciplined execution, cultural rebuilding, and long-term strategic clarity.
Today, John is led by identifying opportunities that have a real purpose: helping executives to grow their perspective, advisory and board work where transformation is required leveraging cultural change, and also is entering the early stages of identifying philanthropic involvement, in partnership with his grown children, Chris and Danielle. His career reflects a consistent pattern of taking on the most complex challenges, leading with purpose, and delivering results that endure.
