In this role, he oversaw all activities involved in the acquisition, financing, and development for $2 billion in commercial, hotel, and residential real estate in North America and the Caribbean. John McElhinney came to this role from an eight-year tenure as a Partner at Boston law firm Ropes & Gray LLP, where he oversaw the due diligence process for landowners of more than 100 Superfund and hazardous waste sites. His high-profile clientele included Harvard University, Eastern Enterprises, and Bain Capital.

John E. McElhinney earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, graduating cum laude in 1984. Prior to this, he attended Dartmouth College with a double major in economics and government, graduating magna cum laude in 1980.
