With a background in orthopedic surgery that covers three decades, Dr. John Frauens leads the Honolulu and Charlotte-based company SoftJoint, Inc. He also volunteers his medical expertise to treat incarcerated patients with orthopedic issues. Dr. John Frauens received his doctor of medicine from Temple University and completed a fellowship in orthopedic rehabilitation at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He subsequently pursued residency training at the same institution.

From 1984 until 1991, Dr. John Frauens served as chief of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Honolulu. He directed Kaiser’s Total Joint Service program until 2010 and oversaw adult reconstructive surgery activities. Dr. Frauens performed more than 3,000 joint replacements and maintained one of the organization’s lowest surgical complication rates. He also helped launch the Kaiser Hawaii Osteoporosis Program. Dr. Frauens maintains a strong community focus and has a board position with Common Grace, an organization that facilitates at-risk youth mentoring in coordination with area Christian churches.
