Johnny Loughrey
Johnny Loughrey is originally from Greysteel, Co Derry and is now living near Tralee, Co Kerry.
Johnny is the son of Civil Rights campaigner and Republican activist Jim Loughrey, who was killed by a British murder squad at their home in 1976.
Johnny spent a number of years working as a trainer and educator, before concentrating on community and rural development work.
Now a campaigner for social justice and human rights, Johnny’s politics are reflected in his art work.
Included in his portfolio have been portraits of prominent revolutionaries home and abroad, protest paintings highlighting issues of social justice from struggles around the world, and major graffiti pieces highlighting injustices, such as the occupation of Palestine.
Johnny has also done a number of commissions, including landscapes and portraits.
In addition, he is the creator of Democracy the Board Game.
