John Oceguera
A lifelong Nevadan, John Oceguera was born in Reno and raised in Fallon. Raised by a single mom, his family didn't have much, but it was a home filled with love and perseverance.
From his mom, a school teacher, John learned about community, responsibility, and hard work — and the
importance of giving our kids the opportunity to succeed. Starting in junior high school, John helped support his family – mowing lawns, working at an ice plant, a disposal company – whatever it took to contribute. He earned a Fire Science degree from Cogswell College, an MPA in Public Administration and a JD from UNLV.
A career fire fighter, John has risen through the ranks of firefighter, paramedic, engineer, captain, battalion
chief, and assistant fire chief.
The same commitment to service and hard work led John to become a strong, independent voice in the
Nevada Assembly. John quickly rose through the ranks, ultimately elected unanimously Speaker of
the Assembly. John has taken on the tough fights – creating jobs, improving education, balancing the budgets, and ensuring that our next generation has an even better chance to succeed.
It's time we have someone who'll stand up to the Washington establishment and fight for what's right. John took on the special interests in Carson City and will be just as tough on Washington DC. With many in
Washington trying to take away seniors' hard-earned right to Medicare – and giving tax breaks to oil and
insurance companies – John is tough enough to fight for us.
