John Patrick Packay

Student and Musician in Philippines

As St. Augustine said, “To sing is to pray twice”. I started my musical journey by singing in a boy’s choir when I was just 8 years old, it is also where I first received my classical training in music. Singing and training everyday eventually led me to take up music as a course. I am now a senior student from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music, Performance in Voice program and a scholar of FCCP (Friends for Cultural Concerns of the Philippines). I always thought that music is all about performing, but upon taking vocal pedagogy class, I began to fell in love with helping other singers by teaching them correct vocal technique for a healthy, and beautiful singing.

I now assist in training the new generation of Tiples de Santo Domingo, the oldest existing boy’s choir in the Philippines, which is also that same boy’s choir I attended to. I also train the Santo Domingo Male Chorale, the alumni of Tiples de Santo Domingo. I am the assistant conductor of QCPADFI (Quezon City Performing Arts Development Inc.) Children’s Choir. Apart from teaching, I also perform for both sacred, and secular settings. I sing for birthdays, weddding, anniversaries, events, and also for any type of Eucharistic Celebration.

I love to help other aspiring musicians to start their musical journey. There are several scholarships and job opportunities for musicians like us. People should start to recognize music as a real career and take pride of the work we do.
