Dr John P Gilmore
Assistant Professor and ICU Nurse in Dublin, Ireland
I am a Nurse - that above all is what underpins my outlook on life. I have a strong inalienable belief in the potential of humans - to do good, & to make change
I have spent most of my clinically-focussed career working in Intensive Care Units across Ireland & the UK. I continue to work as a specialist ICU Nurse in a large University Hospital.
The majority of my work now, is in academia, as an Assistant Professor in Nursing. I am committed to education as a praxis in social justice & have a strong focus on inclusion & universal design of learning. I have expertise in developing high fidelity simulation-based education & in the design & delivery of learning with problem & enquiry based pedagogies.
I have a broad research focus on developing more inclusive healthcare practices & systems; I am also interested in developing clinical research in the areas of sexual(ity) health & on the impact of critical illness on recovery. My PhD research explored how Irish Gay Men discuss sexuality with healthcare practitioners.
I am a member of numerous national & international professional organisations & activist networks. I am always seeking opportunities to create more inclusive narratives, practices, systems & societies.
I’ve also worked in the Youth Work & Disability sectors.
My approach to Social Justice is an intersectional one - considering & dismantling multiple forms of oppression as a priority.
