Throughout his career, Potterton has been developing strong leaders and moving organizations from good to great. He utilizes his Masters Degree in Counseling in all aspects of business – leading his teams as director of conference centers in New York, Chicago and Houston, building long-term relationships with his clients and creating a positive flow in the work place and among his peers and colleagues in the hospitality industry.
As President of Potterton & Associates LLC, John provides his clients with valuable insights into their business processes and challenges them to make the necessary changes for sustainable growth and development to occur. Prior to opening his own business, Potterton spent twenty-two years as director and senior VP of award winning conference centers in New York and Chicago. During this period of time he demonstrated expertise in executive leadership, management, sales, marketing and employee development. Potterton also currently serves as an adjunct professor in Roosevelt University’s School of Hospitality and Hotel Management. He has a solid reputation in the meetings industry, has a strong commitment to excellence and is the recipient of Supplier of the Year Award, Presidents Award and Hall of Fame Award from Meeting Professionals International Chicago Area Chapter. In addition, he was named as one of the top Rising Stars by Meeting Professionals magazine and earned the top two awards given by the International Association of Conference Centers - the Mel Hosansky Award and the Pyramid Award. John has a passion for education and has a keen sense of creating the proper conditions for adults to learn and grow professionally and personally.
