John Rasmussen

John Rasmussen joined the IUPUI Athletics Department in July 2007 as the Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs.
Rasmussen serves as the department’s primary liaison for:
- All department development efforts including annual fundraising to the Jaguars Athletics Club; major gift appeals; J-Club Board; individual sport club fundraising; and managing annual special events such as the Michael Carroll Golf Outing;
- Soliciting corporate sponsorships and maintaining annual business relationships with partners
- Basketball ticket sales for move to Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum
- Complete oversight of ticketing department including game day staffing
- Negotiating media agreements with television, radio, webstreaming, and website partners
- Relationships with multiple campus departments such as Indiana University Alumni Association, Indiana University Foundation, IUPUI Office of Student Involvement, School of Physical Education, and IUPUI Sports Complex.
- In addition, Rasmussen currently oversees the department’s sports information office, men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs, and internship staffing.
Rasmussen continues to be active in service to the university and his profession serving on a variety of institutional committees including the IUPUI Staff Council and J-Club (former athletic letterwinners) Board. He is in the midst of his second term representing Summit League development officers as a conference representative with the National Association of Athletic Development Directors.
Before coming to IUPUI, he spent two years at the University of Evansville as the Assistant Athletics Director for Development.
Rasmussen also spent five years on staff at the University of Missouri where he helped plan and implement the priority seating plan for a new basketball facility. A native of Houston, Texas, Rasmussen received a degree in communication studies from Brigham Young University in 1997.
In 1999, he earned his master’s degree in sport management from the University of Texas. He later served as a faculty lecturer in sport management at Texas, before joining the University of Missouri staff.
Rasmussen and his wife, Jane, have three daughters, Emily (16), Greta (6) and Rilla (4) and a son, Calvin (13) and reside on the Westside of Indianapolis.
