John Lee
Photographer, Filmmaker, and Writer in Washington, DC
I started writing and photography when I was six (I am now almost forty). My 1st job was before Blockbuster Video at a mom-n-pop video rental establishment. In exchange for any and every movie I wanted, I cleaned up, fetched lunch and the like. My 1st real job was Tower Records, 1996-2000.
I also did some tech gigs where I began learning about operating systems and LANs. Boy George (formerly of The Culture Club) helped an idea I had explode into a multimedia frenzy of interviews with DJs from around the world in April of 2001 but certain events brought that to an end.
Drawing from a lifetime of experience with bad taste and good luck, I wrote my first screenplay ("Blackline" - a high-crime auctioneer with a cyberpunk setting) in 2003 and got the attention of a film production company in Los Angeles.
Between 2010 and 2013, I wrote, produced, shot and edited a demo reel which consisted of eight short films and several fake commercials. I am primarily a photographer in the day-to-day life and in pre-production on my second demo reel; filming is tentatively set to begin in Autumn of 2017.
