John Underwood
Intern in Woodside, CA
John Underwood is a business student and varsity lacrosse player at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Beyond his on-field contributions to the team as a face off specialist, John Underwood was a key contributor in the team’s recent charity drive, part of the nationwide Lax Stache Madness initiative that emboldens student-athletes to grow their mustaches in order to raise funds for families battling cancer.
University of Virginia alumnus Ken Clausen established Lax Stache Madness during his senior year in 2008 as a friendly fundraising competition between college lacrosse teams. By 2018 the fundraiser, which raises both money and awareness for individuals and families affected by cancer, had grown to include teams at nearly 100 schools throughout the nation, with total contributions exceeding $1.25 million.
As part of the 2019 event, participating schools raised nearly $250,000, one of the most successful years in the fundraiser’s history. The Marquette team surpassed its $10,000 target by nearly $7,700, thanks in part to Mr. Underwood raising $3,569.
