John Walk

After 15 years in journalism, I stepped into a new career in February 2025 as a Regional Communications Specialist for Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. I help connect more than 9,000 employees with the information and stories that matter most. My role focuses on creating clear, engaging communications across internal and external channels, from identifying and pitching newsworthy stories that earn local media coverage to writing employee profiles, event recaps, and other feature content that highlights the impact of our teams. I manage and publish two weekly employee newsletters, keep the intranet updated with timely information, and support executive communications, including CEO messages, leadership remarks, and major organizational announcements. Throughout all communications, I ensure consistency with Penn Medicine's brand standards, AP style, and strategic priorities while helping tell the stories that advance our mission of providing exceptional patient care, education, and research.

From February 2015 through February 2025, I had the pleasure of being part of the newsroom at my hometown newspaper - LNP | LancasterOnline in Lancaster, PA. I served in the sports department for eight of those years, hustling as a multimedia reporter focusing on high school boys soccer, football, boys basketball and boys/girls lacrosse, in addition on Penn State football coverage. Blessed to be the messenger of incredible stories, I was a four-time first place award-winner and four-time second place award-winner in the annual Keystone Awards.

I began my career at The York (Pa.) Dispatch newspaper, first covering City Hall for less than a year before transitioning to the sports department in February 2011, spending the next four years covering just about every sport imaginable, with a focus on high school football, boys basketball, wrestling, NCAA D-III York College men's and women's basketball and served as the beat reporter of the York Revolution, a pro baseball team part of the independent Atlantic League. During my time in York, I earned Second Place in Sports Feature Reporting (circulation 15,000-30,000) in the 2015 Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors competition.
