Hi, I'm John!

I am a digital educator and currently serve as an instructional coach, supporting teachers in development of digital curriculum. My mission in digital education is school improvement to cultivate student-centered learning communities that prepare our learners for the complex challenges ahead.

I am a Chicago native, and graduated from a magnet school of excellence program in the Chicago Public Schools - this magnet program was a real-life example of how educators, in partnership with communities, can envision and build an alternative vision for education that overcomes assumed limitations.

I currently serve as a co-chair of my district's Action Team for Partnerships. Our mission includes outreach and inclusion of all stakeholder groups in our dialogues and activities.

Partnerships play a key role in my philosophy of education. Growing up, my mom took time to find Saturday and summer workshops that I could take part in at Chicago's world-class museums, libraries, zoos, and aquariums... something I still remember as a highlight of growing up in the city. Partnerships with institutions such as these can open new opportunities.

Academic rigor, with accessibility to all, is key to a successful program. Benchmarks such as the Ohio High Quality Instructional Materials initiative, NSQ standards, and academic standards such as the NGSS serve as tools to drive improvement. In a prior role in Indiana, I had the privilege of serving as a trainer in a statewide program that helped teachers integrate inquiry and dialogue into their science classrooms - another example of a partnership that improved the quality of education in schools.

I currently live in the Columbus, Ohio area. I stay busy with my friends and family, pets, and community involvement. Most years I coach youth lacrosse in the spring!
