John Wiseman
John Wiseman was raised by wolves on the ashen plains of Northwestern Canada.
Okay, that's mostly untrue. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, raised not by wolves but by relocated East Coasters. After college at Cornell, I moved to NYC and worked in television, theater, and film for NBC, Focus Features, and the producers of Wicked and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
In 2006, seeing an opportunity to join then fledgling start-up, Thrillist, as the 3rd employee and head of marketing, I left the world of 20th century entertainment for the wide-open frontier of internet media.
Having led the marketing efforts from the start, I've taken Thrillist from 15,000 readers in one city to over 3 million in 21 markets. In May 2010, we acquired JackThreads, a members-only shopping club for guys, and likewise grew the audience from 150,000 members to over 2 million today.
Together with partners, I also opened the subterranean bar known as The Whiskey Brooklyn in 2010, and the boutique liquor store, The Whiskey Shop, in 2011.
