As a graduate of Carleton University's English program, I developed an appreciation for writing. After graduation, and not really knowing what type of career to pursue, I found the Technical Writing program at Algonquin College. This program provided an interesting and structured career path and combined it with concise, practical writing. An ideal combination for me!
The Technical Writing program has improved my writing, editing, design, and project management skills, and taught me a number of new tools such as FrameMaker, RoboHelp, and MadCap Flare. I have also been introduced to new concepts like task orientation, the top-down structure, and using visual language and cognate strategies for designing documentation. With all of this training, I have improved greatly not only as a writer, but an overall communicator.
