JONAH M. KESSEL
BASED IN BEIJING, WORKING GLOBALLY
JONAH M. KESSEL is a cinematographer, filmmaker and video journalist. He has contributed to a Pulitzer Prize winning series and been awarded the Robert F. Kennedy Award for Justice and Human Rights reporting.
He covers East Asia for the video desk of the New York Times and wishes that curiosity was an ice cream flavor.
His editorial work has appeared in publications around the world including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, CNN, The Economist and the Atlantic Monthly, amongst others.
Kessel's corporate and commercial clients have included Shangri-La, Coca-Cola, BP, Durex and Gucci. Governmental and nongovernmental clients have included grants and commisions from the Middle East Partnership Initiative, The People's Republic of China, The World Economic Forum, Save the Children and the Jane Goodall Institute.
Working with myriad cultures has given him a unique understanding of the variance in how different peoples perceive and receive visual content.
This skill set has put him in unique positions across the globe including an appointment as a visual consultant for the Untied State's State Department, as the Creative Director of China Daily, the People's Republic of China's National English Language newspaper.
By the age of 30 Kessel's wide skill set had garnished over 40 national and international awards for photography, video, design and web projects. He has redesigned newspapers in English, French, Arabic and Chinese, including the People's Republic of China's national English language newspaper, China Daily.
