Jonathan Fung
Vancouver, British Columbia
Born in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Jonathan grew up loving the visual arts. Finding a fascination for the arts like many children do at a young age, he explored drawing and painting but was drawn towards architectural design during high school where he learned floor plans, building structures, and drafting skills. That fascination grew to a new level once the introduction of technology enhanced architecture in 3D design, creating three dimensional structures, which led into 3D modeling and animation. Upon further exploration, his passion for video game cinematics and visual effects in films became stronger as the realism of both inspired and motivated Jonathan to seek out the process of how it was done.
This passion opened him to a new world of how art was being produced through technological advancement. He started his path towards 3D work that would require himself to start the long journey of learning the foundations of art before even acquiring software knowledge and instruction.
He enrolled at Kwantlen Polytechnic University to learn the fundamentals of art by going through history from the Renaissance to Modern art, seeing the dreams and passions of artists, and to the vast amounts of art mediums, exposing and opening his mind to the possibilities that one could create. Moving from two dimensional forms of drawing the human form and the use of blending colours in painting and monoprint, to the three dimensional forms of sculpting and ceramics, would later help shape the way he approaches his 3D work.
