Lawyer, Journalist, and Consultant in Phoenix, Arizona
Jonathan Hutcheson is an attorney/journalist/consultant based in Phoenix who specializes in technology, information security and privacy issues. His work has appeared various places such as NBC Nightly News, MSNBC, the TODAY Show and First Read (nbcnews.com).
He is currently a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, the third largest public prosecutorial agency in the nation for the fourth largest county in the U.S.
In his spare time, he acts as the Director of Cyber Security for 100 Reporters (100r.org) and is responsible for both site and source security. Hutcheson also does digital strategy and development work for select clientele.
He is available for public speaking engagements on law, policy, and technology - panels, debates, conferences, and educational programming. (See his National Press Club panel appearance here - speaking about digital security for journalists and their sources.)
For those familiar with BAR/BRI, Hutcheson coordinated the massive, joint pro se objection to the ridiculous class action settlement proposal in Stetson v. West Publishing Corp. (barbrisettlementobjection.com - available via archive.org) that helped lead to a successful rejection. The subsequent, approved settlement carried an estimated increased cash value of $4.3M (82% greater than original offer value).
