Jonathan Bryant is a professional dance artist with 15 years experience as a performer, choreographer and educator. He is currently a member of Invertigo Dance Theatre, a video editor at Kadenze and a previous adjunct professor at the California Institute of the Arts teaching Dance for Camera.
He was a member of the dance company Momix, under the direction of Moses Pendleton, touring worldwide for four years in the casts of Botanica and Remix. In addition to performing, he has served as dance captain, video manager, and prop manager.
He has performed with Rosanna Gamson/Worldwide in STILL as a part of the NOW festival at the REDCAT and in Layla Means Night as a part of the 2014 Grand Performances summer performance series in Los Angeles. He has also performed as a part of Ting-Yu Chen’s Flying Lions Dance company, Elane Daymude’s Movement Negotiations and in the 2002 Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Chita Rivera.
In 2009 he received a commission to participate in Estada/InTourDansa, a 21city touring concert program in Girona, Spain, as an educator, choreographer and performer. There he created and performed in two works and taught a series of master classes.
As a commercial freelance dancer his credits include Maquerade!, a musical revue at the Harrah’s Casino New Orleans; Macy’s corporate industrial showcase; and performing as a back-up dancer for vocal artists Shoreh and Vixen. He also performed as a magician’s assistant and dancer in Manila, Philippines with Spellbound and in Cancun, Mexico with Nathan Burton’s Comedy Magic.
For the past 15 years Jonathan has worked with the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant as choreographer and dancer. There he has the opportunity to create and perform work simultaneously for stage and live telecast, as well as collaborating on sound, video and costume design.
Jonathan holds a BFA in Dance Performance from Shenandoah University, where he had the opportunity to perform in the works of many choreographers such as, Alan Arnett, Todd Rosenlieb, Keith Thompson and John Mead.
A recent MFA in Choreography graduate from Calarts (2015) Jonathan has created four original works for the stage: Cos(myth)os (full length); Moon for the Water; Furious Fragments of A-musing Meditation on Beauty and the Persistence of Mystery and a solo work: Nuclear Diaspora: Splitting the Adam; as well as choreographed and directed two dance for camera works: Cold Fusion and Blood in the Water. He was also the choreographer for the play When Spring Come
