911 Communications Supervisor in Athens, Georgia
Jonathan is a 911 Communications Supervisor with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. Upon starting in public safety in 2006, Jonathan grasped the challenge and worked to advance his career through education, building relationships, community involvement, and taking on additional responsibilities.
He spent his first four years with the department as a Communications Officer and was then promoted to Senior Communications Officer in 2010. In 2014 he joined the management team as Communications Supervisor. He now supervises a team of Public-Safety professionals who serve in the 911 center which handles over 135,000 calls a year and supports a community of over 116,000 residents. He currently serves as Commander of the Athens-Clarke County Tactical Dispatch Team which provides communications support during critical incidents.
Jonathan is an active member on several professional associations and advisory boards that focus on public safety, emergency response, communications, and training. This includes serving as Board Member of the Georgia Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and the Georgia Emergency Number Association, and as member of the Georgia Emergency Communications Conference (GECC) Planning Committee and the Georgia Association of Terminal Agency Coordinators. He’s also participated in communications exercises in support staff roles with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and Homeland Security. Jonathan was appointed to the APCO International Project 43 Operations Workgroup for 2016-17. He currently serves as the 2015-16 Chair of the APCO International Member and Chapter Services Committee.
His training and education include graduating from the International Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations program, and training from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Georgia Crime Information Center. Jonathan also serves on the Training Committee for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department E-911 Center.
Not only is he responsible for the 911 center’s daily operations and staff support, he actively participates with the implementation of new technologies to improve the center’s communication processes. He is knowledgeable in Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and mapping systems, Records Management Systems (RMS), Emergency call-taking and telephone systems, and advanced Communication Center equipment.
