Jonathan McFarland
Medical Humanities, Teacher, and Public Speaker in Sóller, Spain
Jonathan McFarland currently works as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Universitat de Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. He holds a BA (Hons) in Humanities from the University of Northumbria (UK) and an MA in Language and Literature from the UIB (University of the Balearic Islands). With a background in the Humanities and more than 20 years of experience in Medical English, he is a member of ASME (Association for the Study of Medical Education). He is also a Founding member of EUNAMES (European Narrative Medicine Society) and a member of ASOMEGA (Association of Galician Doctors). He was a lay member of COMETA (Ethics Committee for Primary Health Care for Mallorca) for many years.
He is President of The Doctor as a Humanist, an international organization of students, scholars, educators, and practitioners dedicated to studying, preserving, and promoting the humanities and humanism in medicine and healthcare worldwide, as well as Chairman of the Action Committee for the Silk-Road Medical Forum within the Silk-Road Universities Network (SUN).
He is Co-editor of the new book series – New Paradigms in Healthcare ( Springer), whose first book – Health Humanities for Quality of Care in Times of Covid-19 waspublished in April 2022 and latest book, The Relationship between Pharmacists and Patients was published in April 2026.
