As a Charlotte, North Carolina, ophthalmologist and the Medical Director of the Christenbury Eye Center for the past 24 years, Dr. Jonathan Christenbury offers patients access to advanced iLASIK, VISIAN ICL, and ReSTOR procedures. Jonathan Christenbury, MD, offers free initial consultation to all patients (unless medical diagnosis is found), followed by a WaveScan that takes an iris fingerprint. This advanced technology utilizes as many as 24 unique points to identify the patient’s specific iris features. This makes it absolutely certain that no patient receives another’s treatment by mistake. Dr. Jonathan Christenbury’s primary surgical specialty is iLASIK, which builds on his experience in performing over 70,000 LASIK procedures over the years, including dozens of FDA trials for excimer laser treatment. With firsthand knowledge of all major FDA-approved excimer lasers for correcting vision, Jonathan Christenbury, MD, has carefully reviewed 35,000, of his past treatments. Among five lasers utilized, iLASIK offers the best results, both in terms of sustained 20/20 or better vision, and in low prevalence of retreatment. iLASIK is a term describing two complementary procedures: the IntraLase femtosecond laser creates the LASIK flap, and the VISX CustomVue laser corrects vision. In offering iLASIK to his clients, Dr. Jonathan Christenbury follows in the steps of the Federal Aviation Administration, which has approved the technologies for use on commercial and private pilots and NASA, which has approved the treatment for military fighter pilots and astronauts. In addition to iLASIK, Christenbury Eye Center offers VISIAN ICL procedures, recommended for patients suffering from correctible nearsightedness and astigmatism issues who are not LASIK candidates. In performing this procedure, Jonathan Christenbury, MD, inserts an extremely small intra‐ocular lens between the pupil and the eye’s crystalline lens. Internally positioned within the pupil, the lens is inert, cannot be felt by the wearer, and offers sharper focus than prescription spectacles. Should vision change over time, the VISIAN ICL lens can be replaced, making the procedure completely reversible, unlike iLASIK.
