Jonathan Cunningham is Deputy Director at 4Culture where he focuses on staff oversight, strategic planning and long-term budgeting for a $100M funding institution. Jonathan has dedicated his career to supporting arts and culture and a wealth of experience in developing innovative grant programs, building strategic partnerships, and advancing racial equity and social justice.
Prior to joining 4Culture he was a Senior Program Officer at Seattle Foundation where he specialized in leading investments in historically under-resourced communities. He’s also the principal architect of REPAIR (Racially Equitable Philanthropy Aimed at Initiating Reparations), the foundation’s five year, $25 million commitment to Black-led organizations in the Greater Seattle region.
He is a former Seattle Arts Commissioner with deep knowledge of navigating public, private and municipal partnerships. He currently serves as board president of The Residency which he co-founded alongside Macklemore in 2015.
In a former career he was an award winning music journalist and editor with content published in major outlets such as FADER, VIBE, Spin, Rollinstone.com Village Voice Media, and City Arts Magazine.
