Jonathan Kramnick
Author of Actions and Objects from Hobbes to Richardson (Stanford, 2010); Making the English Canon: Print-Capitalism and the Cultural Past, 1700-1770 (Cambridge, 1999); and the upcoming Paper Minds: Between Literature, Philosophy, and Science, Jonathan Kramnick analyzes and teaches 18th-century English and literature, literature and philosophy, and literature and science. A Professor of English at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Jonathan Kramnick also publishes articles and literary reviews and appears as guest lecturer at other universities and at conferences for organizations like the Modern Language Association, the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, and the Group for Early Modern Cultural Studies.
Jonathan Kramnick earned his B.A. at Cornell University in 1989 and his Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University in 1995. He began teaching in the English Department at Rutgers in the fall of 1995. While at Rutgers, Jonathan Kramnick has served in a number of positions in his department, including as Associate Director of Graduate Studies, Director of the Honors Program, and Graduate Placement Director. From 2010 to 2011, Dr. Kramnick was Acting Director of the Center for Cultural Analysis and from 2009 to 2011 sat on the Appointments and Promotion Committee. He has received fellowships from the Stanford Humanities Center, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and various libraries and research centers.
