About Me

I draw and paint plants, large and small, working mainly with charcoal and oil paint.

All of my work is for sale, either as original works, framed or unframed , or as prints. I’m scaling up at the moment - making work where big dynamic forms and small detail can reward different ways of looking.

My “Gardens and Other Wild Places” series takes in plants I grow at home - plants I come across on rambles, and plants that collectors feel affection for and commission me to draw and paint.

Right now two large drawings are on show in The Sweetshop Window Gallery, Lewes.https://blogs.brighton.ac.uk/sweetshop/

Seeing the plant as an individual focusses empathy and affection - the same springing upwards, the same drooping, the same swaying, the same rootedness, the same withering and sense of survival.

Making the work is a way of focusing on interoception. I believe that people who enjoy the drawings are sharing the same dance in time with the plant that I enjoyed.

I‘m a director at Art in Sight putting art and design into hospitals www.artinsite.co.uk
