Jonn Benedict Lu is an Economics & Political Science graduate from Columbia University (NYC). After a stint at the United Nations and the abandonment of the dream to become a career diplomat, he has worked in the fields of legal services marketing, technology start-ups, venture capital / angel funding, brand consulting and pre-IPO preparatory work. In 2004, he pursued a personal interest in documentary film making, attaining a MFA in film. He directs, produces, hosts, and leads expeditions on exploration-themed productions. A zealous weekend warrior, he is a rock climbing instructor, Ironman triathlete and multi-terrain adventure racer. When not slacklining, running around climbing trees, rocks and urban structures, he's in the water as a SDI, NAUI Scuba Diving / NAUI Technical Diving Instructor and Freediving Instructor. An avid freediver, his personal static breath-hold record is 6 minutes. Jonn is also the Founder and Resident Instructor of the Project X Team, the largest and most active not-for-profit extreme sports group in Hong Kong. He joined Shark Savers in 2010 as Volunteer Leader, and subsequently became Shark Savers' and WildAid's Regional Director, covering key beachheads in the Asia Pacific. He runs the "I'm FINished with FINs" campaign, the largest ever organised for shark conservation, featuring over 700 of the most engaging, influential and powerful celebrities and personalities in the world. A Singaporean Chinese, he runs a consultancy outfit responsible for some of the largest campaigns in the region (deforestation / palm oil / pulp & paper / haze, sustainable seafood, wildlife conservation, Earth Hour 2016, the zero-waste / carbon neutral National Geographic Channel Earth Day Run Singapore 2016). Jonn also works on ASEAN wildlife conservation policy initiatives, mentors young activists, speaks at conferences, forms corporate, social enterprise and NGO partnerships in the region. He currently serves as Race Director for the zero-waste "National Geographic Channel Earth Day Run" platform, and as Council Member of the Singapore Underwater Federation overseeing the development of underwater aquatic sports.
