Jon Yau

born in 1989 in China. When small I was a trouble maker, liked doing different things form other. For years of “ZhuangBi”, seeing more people with age, I realized that I am not that special because everybody is special.
I liked drawing and I liked cartoon. I got my first computer when I was in junior middle school, and I taught myself Photoshop. I got along well with my CG skills and did some design work online while in high school, the pay was not much but satisfied me at that time. I am interested in physics because in science, only the physical model is natural rather than manmade, and once I got no.2 in the physics contest in school.
As《hacker & painter》says, school is an unreal world and everyone is playing stupid games in it. As for me, college is a dot connected the real world. In college, Luckily, I met some interesting guys to exchange each idea. I was curiosity about many things at that time and I took online open courses from MIT, Stanford, Yale, etc. in my dormitory. To answer the question likes “the meaning of life”, I kept myself drowning in library. I agree with the view says that the meaning of life is creation, because it is meaningless isolating from the world. I realized that I was so ignorance when reading. Reading likes a communication crossing the time and space, Freud, Von Neumann, Wiener, these people are my source of ideas.
I was also interested in information technology, I asked many questions on BBS, reading in library, learn about how the CPU&GPU works and the interface between programming language and the hardware. I also took a lot of time studying data structure, discrete mathematics and calculus. Someone asked what use is that knowledge to me, I didn't know how to explain it to one has different values, however, I knew that the ability improvement is not linear, it trained me to see things dynamically.
Design is neither art nor technology but make the product better. Two years of working, metting some hackers and good colleagues, UCD, agile verification, iterative development, flat team structure, their ways of thinking is advanced. Like the net model, humans are social animals, we should get more connections to realize our value.
I often being thought of an IT geek, however, I don’t like to label myself. Internet makes the world full of possibility and makes people more like to be themselves. Life is short, just enjoy it.
