Cllr Jo Platt

Councillor in Astley Mosley Common

I was elected to Wigan Council representing Astley Mosley Common in May 2012, which I have to say was one of the proudest days of my life. To be elected and make a difference to the community is truly a great honour.

In June 2014 I was appointed Cabinet Member with the portfolio of Children and Young People, responsible for the issues and services for all 75,000 children and young people within the borough .. Another proud moment! My work at Wigan Council involves dealing with the worst spending cuts Local Government has seen. Rest assured I will be working alongside the Wigan Labour group to ensure the most vulnerable in our communities do not suffer. As part of the devolution deal, I have recently been appointed as a Deputy for Greater Manchester, to serve on the portfolio of transport.

As a Councillor, I serve an area that is furthest away from the town centre of Wigan which I am reminded of quite frequently. Both Astley and Mosley Common are villages steeped in history, from our industrious past to our fabulous green spaces. I am so lucky to be able to work with the many community, tenants and resident groups within the area which I hope will continue to put both Astley & Mosley Common firmly on the map!

Like my politics, my football team is also red, MUFC!

I also have the role of Leigh Constituency Labour Party Secretary. All this whilst doing the most important job of all ... being mum to my two wonderful children.
