If you are in IT and you aren't constantly eliminating friction with technology, providing the company with tools to make things work better and taking feedback (good & bad) from your users, you're doing it wrong.

My rules for being a leader (not just a manager):

  • Care about your people and hire only people with a commitment to make something great for your company and your customers.
  • Always start with the goals of the business and translate them into the multitude of big and small projects.
  • Negotiate to remove technology obstacles for the business and business obstacles for your team.
  • Make mistakes and learn from them. Mistakes are only bad if you’re making them twice.
  • Always encourage intellectual curiosity in your team and in yourself.
  • Combine constant strategic thinking and proper application of technology to remove friction from the business.

Who is this guy? I'm a Dad, husband, leader, negotiator, gadget fan, in that order. My loves are Family, Travel, Books and Texas music artists. Special power: applying movie quotes as metaphors for reality.
