I started playing classical piano at age 5. And for the first 10 years of my musical life, nobody ever knew that I couldn't read music. I mean...I could tell one note from another, but when it came to learning and playing... it was entirely by ear, feel, and pure unadulterated luck. Given these emerging aptitudes, it seemed reasonable to switch to rock, pop, blues, and soul.

We can fast forward through a college career performing on electric bass, more ear/feel/luck, an undergrad degree in music technology, and a masters in digital music pedagogy. The long and short is that I had solid experiences in music technology and multimedia production, but knew that I didn't want to be in a recording studio.

So, remembering what it was like to go through learning in classically-oriented conservatory model, I turned to designing a history of rock and roll course for college students that would pay tribute to the chaotic and haphazard ways pop musicians learn their craft. From here, my passions exploded, reaching out into hip-hop, instructional technology, critical pedagogy, aesthetic education, and community-engaged teaching.

I'm currently finishing my Doctorate in Instructional Technology, working with various organizations and non-profits to help educators incorporate the arts, technology, and creativity into learning environments of all varieties. As a part time academic nerd, I do my best to attend and present regularly at national conferences focusing on the intersection of informal learning, music education, and technology.

Poetically, I'd like to think that I walk the ivory tower of academia by day and the worn grooves of 45s by night.

If you are looking for a progressive and creative education or technology consultant, I'd love to hear from you!
