My name is Jordan Brobst and I am a first-year at The Ohio State University majoring in exercise science.
My top 5 StrengthsQuest strengths are: competition, communication, woo, adaptability, and achiever. I can most identify with the strength of competition. Competition means to me the drive to be better and to challenge yourself in every aspect of your life. Competition is something that has been important to me my entire life -- on the basketball court, in the classroom, and in other organizations that I have been involved with. This strength impact everything that I do by making me always looking to challenge myself, but also others around me to be better. I am dedicated and passionate about all that I do, and you can see this through my competitive spirit.
My favorite Ohio State tradition is the "OH-IO" chant that is recognized throughout the world by Ohio State Buckeye fans. Something that I learned about this tradition was the origin of it. It originated from US Navy sailors aboard the USS Lexington in 1942 who created hand symbols to go along with their “O-H-I-O S-T-A-T-E” chant to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”. Some of the sailors ended up attending Ohio State and bringing both the chant and the hand symbols to the university. Researching Ohio State traditions made me appreciate my university and its root in so many different traditions, especially ones that bring fans, alumni, and students from all around the world together as part of one Buckeye Nation.
The wellness assessment was important to me because it showed me where my wellness strengths are, and where I can improve. I scored highest in the social and physical categories, which was not surprising to me because I am very involved socially and in physical exercise. I scored lowest in the creative dimension, which is something that I have been working on since I have taken the assessment. I feel that I have already improved in this category since coming to Ohio State by taking different classes that I probably would not have taken during high school. By knowing where my strengths are and where I can improve, I am going to be able to improve my overall health, physical and mental.
