Jordyn Zura
Student in New Jersey
Hi, my name is Jordyn Zura. I am currently enrolled as a transfer student at Stockton University as a Junior. Before my journey at Stockton, I attended Lacey Township High School, and Ocean County College. While I was a student in high school I was apart of a class that allowed me to be a mentor to students with disabilities. My teacher Mrs. Barber, made class super fun for all of us. I was able to get a hands on experience teaching students with disabilities minor tasks. This allowed me to develop close relationships with them, as well as their personal teachers. I also was in a child development class, which allowed me to sit in elementary school classrooms, and observe at Forked River Elementary School. I became really close with the teacher who's classroom I was in; Mrs. Latwis. She allowed me to get a feel for teaching by having me read to the class, create lesson plans, decorate the classroom, and help students reflect on their test taking skills.
After graduating high school, I took an EDUC class at Ocean County College. In this class, I had to complete 80 hours of observation in a classroom. I completed my hours at Forked River Elementary School as well, but this time I was with Mrs. Bowens. She made my experience well worth it. She talked to the school principal Mr. Fiedler, and they agreed to allow me to sit in on one of their meetings. Mrs Bowens and I became really close, and I will always look up to her. I then earned my Associates degree in Liberal Arts, and am using this degree to help me step up to a Bachelors degree in education. My goal is to graduate Stockton by the Fall of 2021, and to become an elementary (k-6) school teacher. It has always been my dream to teach ever since I was little. I could not imagine myself in any other career, and I will not stop until I get to where I need to be. My long term goal is to come back to school, and get a degree in special education. I believe I have what it takes to make a difference in students lives.
