Joseph Lavelle

Hi, I'm Joe of the Boulder Lavelles. My family was originally from Florida going back to long before air conditioning. The Boulder Lavelle branch began in 1996, when I moved to Colorado to rock climb in Heaven.

I grew up in Plantation, Florida climbing trees, fishing and playing football. I attended Nova Elementary, Middle & High School before attending Florida State University where I joined the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. I graduated in 1983 with a degree in Finance. Later, I received an MBA from the University of Miami while working and living in South Florida (Pembroke Pines & Coconut Grove).

I moved from Coconut Grove, Florida to Chicago, IL and then to Boulder where I put down roots after meeting my future wife, Susan, in 2000 at Vic's coffee shop. It all started with a photo of her on the summit of Grays Peak (14,270').

We married in 2001 at the Boulderado Hotel, and then our children began arriving and kept coming in 3 year increments until 2008 when our small house was full: Izzy, 2002 Maddy, 2005 Murphy, 2008

My first ambition in life was to become a professional sport fisherman. After the 2nd grade, my only dreamed was of playing professional football. My real life 'for money' career started in Corporate Finance (Cordis, Ryder), moved into Management Consulting (Price Waterhouse, ATKearney), and then, finally, into small business general management. At the same time, my 'for no-money' career as an adventurer, which started rather slowly, began to flourish once I moved to Boulder.
