JOSEPH SINGH
New York, NY
Joseph Singh is an emerging New York based fashion designer known for celebrating dark and mysterious themes. Joseph is fascinated by the interaction between people and their surroundings, body versus space, the order and arrangement of things around him and the contrast of opposite ideas. With fabric as a starting point, his unique design aesthetics are intended to invoke raw emotion. Joseph’s designs embody complexity in the form of extensive fabric treatments and manipulation. Joseph’s work has been featured in numerous major publications, various websites, blog’s and has been featured on display at Parsons Paris during Paris Fashion Week. He also was finalist in this 2013’s Made for Peroni Young Designers Awards.
Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Joseph realized his true passion for fashion design while studying biological sciences at San Francisco State University (SFSU). In 2007, he enrolled at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco and within two years, he completed his bachelor’s degree in marketing at SFSU and associate’s degree at FIDM. Upon graduation, Joseph served as an apprentice at several local fashion houses before enrolling at Parsons the New School for Design in New York.
In 2010, Joseph moved to New York to further his pursuits in fashion design and realize his full potential at Parsons. While attending Parsons, Joseph’s career began as an intern with Donna Karan. Joseph’s work at Parsons significantly defined and honed the precise detail and styling he possesses today. While at Parsons, Joseph received the following accolades:
•2012 CFDA National Scholarship Award, Honorable Mention;
•Herbert Gallen Scholarship for scholastic excellence; and
•Finalist in the Parsons x Kering Empowering Imagination 2013 competition.
