Joshua Murphy has spent his career designing and executing innovative social change initiatives. He spent five years at the Rockefeller Foundation working for two dynamic presidents—Dr. Judith Rodin and Dr. Rajiv Shah—helping them and the organization think deeply about how institutions and communities can work together to create real social impact on the ground.
He traveled the world meeting with high-level government officials, business leaders, and thought partners across sectors; supported hundreds of external activities and managed over $12.5M in grant dollars in support of amazing institutions in various fields of work from the Lincoln Center Cultural Innovation Fund, which provided grants and support to 12 innovative community-based cultural programs across New York City to the Future Cities Accelerator, which provided grants to 10 amazing ventures who are working to solve critical issues of poverty and economic access in U.S. cities.
In his time at the Rockefeller Foundation, Josh also led communications and external affairs for Co-Impact, a global collaborative for systems change, focused on improving the lives of millions of people around the world.
Prior to joining The Rockefeller Foundation, Josh worked as the Special Assistant to the Director and Sr. VP of Generation Progress at the Center for American Progress where he provided strategic support to the Director, and supported team operations and planning.
In the past he has served as a project assistant for the Bipartisan Policy Center where he provided project support to Sec. of Agriculture Dan Glickman, the Democracy Project, the National Security Preparedness Group, Development, and Communications teams.
He has also served in City Year as a corps member in Washington, DC, a national non-profit AmeriCorps program dedicated to reducing the drop-out rate in disadvantaged schools across the nation.
He has also served as a staff assistant in the Office of Youth Engagement for the DC Public Schools Central Office. In this role, Josh developed a new student leadership development program among other administrative and operations projects.
Mr. Murphy received a bachelor’s degree in government and world affairs from the University of Tampa. Mr. Murphy has published two books, “Writings from a Teenage Mind” and “Generation We Solve: Cause the Effect.”
